This morning, Srixon staff member Peter Jacobsen was named the 2013 Payne Stewart Award winner by the PGA Tour. The award, which began in 2000 after Payne Stewart’s tragic death, is given each year to a professional golfer who best exemplifies the values of character, charity and sportsmanship. Peter and his marketing firm, Peter Jacobsen Sports, have supported non-profit organizations ranging from The First Tee to the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as contributing over $40 Million to a multitude of major charities. Jacobsen, 59, is the 16th player to be given the award, but, for Peter, it is just a bit more special.

Peter and Payne were the closest of friends on and off the golf course. When asked about Stewart during his press conference, Peter stated, “Payne and I did so many things together. I’ve watched the progression of that award over the years and I have always admired guys who won it and obviously admired Payne so much. We all did. He was like a brother, such a good guy.” Away from golf, Peter and Payne were band members in “Jake Trout and the Flounders“; the group recorded two albums together in the 80′s and 90′s.

With golf, music or anything he does in life, Peter always has fun and brings joy to those around him. “Payne was a competitor; I’m a competitor. We’re all competitors. We all want to win every time we tee it up but that’s not feasible. But, you can always have fun.” We are excited for Peter and are proud to have him represent our brand.
