Three For Inbee! Park Wins U.S. Women’s Open
On Sunday, World #1 Inbee Park rewrote history by winning the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open at Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, NY. This was her third consecutive major title, making her only the second woman to win the first three majors in a calendar year, along with the legendary “Babe” Didrikson Zaharias. This was her 6th LPGA victory of 2013 having now earned over $2.1 million this season, more than twice that of the next player.
She started the event on Thursday with a 5-under par 67, putting her into a tie for second, which would be the lowest position she would hold all week. She went on to lead the remainder of the event, finishing with an 8-under par 280, a four shot victory over fellow Korean I.K. Kim. On a course where three players to finish under par for the week, Inbee finished with red numbers three out of four days and totaled the lowest cumulative score since 2007.
Pat Bradley, 6-time LPGA Major Winner and aunt of fellow Srixon staffer Keegan Bradley, said on Sunday, “Boy, oh boy, what an incredible display of someone being calm, cool, and collected. You name it, and this young lady showed it all week long. When you win three [majors] in a row. . . I had the opportunity. It did not happen for me, but when you get them in succession, that is really taking it to another level. I am so impressed.”
Park will now be able to make history and achieve something that has never been done by any golfer, man or woman: achieve the modern Grand Slam. Next month, Inbee (or Win-bee) will go for her 4th major of 2013 in the Women’s British Open. And what better setting is there to make history than the home of golf, The Old Course at St. Andrews Links in Scotland.
Park currently plays the new Z-STAR with Spin Skin technology, which has already earned more than 40 professional wins worldwide. This model of the Z-STAR will be released in the U.S. on August 8, 2013.
